Fire guts stockroom of Manila university

A fire broke out at a stockroom at the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila (PLM) in Intramuros, Manila Saturday noon.

A stockroom at the university, which contained old office equipment, was gutted by fire at around 11 a.m.

Classes and offices were immediately alerted of the incident, and students and faculty were able to evacuate the building.

The fire reached the fifth alarm level and damages were estimated to reach P200,000.

The fire was immediately put out by school staff, who used fire extinguishers, and firemen who immediately arrived at the scene.

Fire officials said faulty electrical wiring could be the possible cause of the blaze.

Fire-out was declared at around 12 noon, and several classes resumed afterwards.

The blaze however affected the supply of electricity in three out of the university's six buildings., Classes in the buildings without electricity have been temporarily called of for the day by the school authorities. Gretchen Malalad, ABS-CBN News
