Students drenched as downpour continues - report

MANILA, Philippines - Many students in Metro Manila went home drenched following Malacañang's announcement suspending classes in Metro Manila due to heavy rains.

Radio dzBB's Bernie Morales reported that in northern Metro Manila, many students on their way home also had to deal with high floods.

Some of the students removed their uniforms and shoes so they would not smell if they used them to wade through the floodwaters.

At Samson Road in Caloocan City, policemen questioned the lateness of the announcement of the suspension of classes, saying it had affected many students.

Making matters worse in some areas in northern Metro Manila was that garbage clogged many drainage sites, the report said.

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said floods in many areas were gutter-deep. It said the floods in some areas were "higher" because of the high tide.

It also said it has coordinated with the Air Force and Army to help stranded commuters. - GMANews.TV
