Activists hold protest in Pandacan vs oil price hikes

About 100 members of two youth activist groups staged a lightning protest at the country's principal oil depot in Pandacan, Manila.

Representatives of the League of Filipino Students (LFS) and Anakbayan first tried to breach the gates of Caltex at the Pandacan Oil Depot to express their protest against the US brand owned by Chevron Corp..

However, the security guards immediately stopped them by shutting the second gate.

The protesters also threw paints at Caltex's signage and lied down for a few minutes at the entrance of the terminal.

Ken Ramos, chairperson of Anakbayan, said Chevron Corp. will not be the last oil company they will be hitting. He said they will hold protests in other oil companies in the coming days.

Police tried but failed to disperse the students.

Police said that the protesters left the place after staging their short activity.
