MANILA, Philippines A boy committed denied the chance to visit his bird trap committed suicide on his 8th birthday in Banquerohan village, Cadiz City in Negros Occidental province Monday afternoon.
Online news site Visayan Daily Star (www.visayandailystar.com) reported Tuesday that the boy used a belt to hang himself in the kitchen.
"It was (his) birthday ... he had just turned 8. We did not have anything prepared for his birthday because we are hard up," said the victim's pregnant mother.
The mother said the boy was declared dead at the Cadiz City Emergency Clinic. She said the victim had returned from school past 4 p.m. and complained when she told him to stay home and study.
"He wanted to go out with his friends to a bird trap they had set up to see if they had caught anything," she said.
She said she hit the boy with his flash card from school and told him to study. "He cried and I left him in our house while I visited a neighbor for about 30 minutes," she said.
"When I got back to our house I found him hanging from a belt made of cloth in our kitchen," she said. - GMANews.TV
