CHED extends deadline for integrating review centers to schools

MANILA, Philippines - The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) on Wednesday announced that review centers would be given extensions in connection with the move to integrate them with existing school in the country.

The announcement was made by CHED executive director William Medrano who said that CHED has given review centers another six months.

The deadline was extended despite the appeal from Federation of Accredited Review Centers of the Philippines (FARCP) and the Excel Review and Training Center (ERTC) for non-extension of the deadline.

"It was extended upon the appeal of the other review centers so that they can finish their documents and register as well," Medrano said.

CHED records showed that out of the 800 registered review centers with the Department of Trade and Industry only 20 have secured permits with the agency.

Earlier, the FARCP filed a petition asking CHED to impose the deadline, saying that the agency is giving the impression that the agency has a lack of political will to sanitize the review center operations in the country.

CHED acting Chairman Romulo Neri had warned that review centers that fail to beat the deadline to integrate with regular school faces closure.

He said then that CHED is no longer keen of granting a second extension of the deadline which was set to expire on May 28.

Neri said the earlier extension for the imposition of Executive Order(EO) No. 566, which mandates independent review centers to integrate to regular schools was due to the request of the review center organizations. - GMANews.TV
