Eleven of the 28 military officers detained in connection with the alleged February 2006 withdrawal of support from President Arroyo were arraigned Tuesday on mutiny charges in a military court.
Instead of entering a guilty or not guilty plea however, the officers entered special pleas and asked the court for up to 20 days to file a demurrer to the charges, which they said have no basis.
Those who were arraigned this morning were Army officers: Brig. Gen. Danilo Lim, former chief of the Army Scout Rangers, Lieutenant Colonels Nestor Flordeliza and Edmundo Malabanjot, Maj. Jason Aquino, and 2nd Lt. Ritchiemel Caballes.
Among the accused Marines, those arraigned were Colonels Ariel Querubin, Januario Caringal, Orlando de Leon, and Armando Bañez, and Lieutenant Colonels Achilles Segumallian and Custodio Parcon.
Former Marines commandant Major General Renato Miranda was arraigned during an earlier hearing but his special plea to drop the charges against him was denied.
The general court martial is set continue to arraign the other 17 accused officers.
