Boy dies, four injured in 11-vehicle accident in NLEX

A seven-year old boy died while four others suffered minor injuries in an multi-vehicular accident in the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) Thursday late afternoon.

The accident occurred on the northbound lane before the Meycauayan, Bulacan exit or at Kilometer 20+300 of NLEX around 5 pm.

A passenger of a Mersan transit bus, with plate number TWB 736, said that their bus was moving fast when the brakes of the transport bus failed and hit a slower-moving Nissan Escapade van with plate number RGD 280. The initial collision however caused further collisions with other vehicles.

The young fatality was reported to have been a passenger in the Nissan Escapade van. He was identified as Ezekiel Salazar.

Dr Jeremiahs Almeron, attending physician of Sta. Clara de Montefalco Medical Center where Ezekiel was taken, said: "unconscious na si Ezekiel nang dumating sa ospital, pinilit naming i-revive, dineclare nang DOA (dead on arrival). Internal hemorrhage ang ikinamatay."

The injured victims of the accident were identified as Leonard Arceo, Mersan bus passenger; Melissa Rico Hermoso, John Roland Salazar, brother of Ezekiel and Roland Salazar, Ezekiel’s father.

The driver of the Mersan bus was being held by NLEX traffic investigation unit.

The other vehicles involved in the collisions with their respective plate numbers were: a four-wheeler Elf (UDW 201), Tamaraw FX (UUB 960), Lexus Grande (ZGE-519), Adventure (XJW-834), Nissan Largo (RFF 677), Mazda 323 (UEM 576), Toyota Avanza (ZGN 263), a public utility jeepney (PFY 551) and another public utility jeepney (TGJ 384)
