(Update) MANILA, Philippines - President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo named a retired Court of Appeals justice and a regional trial court judge as the new commissioners of the Commission on Elections (Comelec), radio dzBB reported Wednesday.
Radio dzBB's Aileen Intia identified the two new poll appointees as retired appellate court Justice Lucenito Tagle and Malabon RTC Judge Leonardo Leonida.
The report said President Arroyo will be naming another new Comelec commissioner in the next few days.
As this developed, the Comelec farmed out assignments for its commissioners for the Aug. 11 Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) elections.
In its Resolution 8479, dated June 30, listed the provincial assignments for commissioners Rene Sarmiento, Nicodemo Ferrer and Moslemen Macarambon.
Sarmiento will be in charge of elections in Tawi-Tawi and Sulu; Ferrer will be in charge of polls in Basilan; while Macarambon will handle polls in Lanao del Sur, Maguindanao and Shariff Kabunsuan.- Amita Legaspi, GMANews.TV
