The local government of Pasay City on Saturday started an intensified campaign against "colorum" public utility vehicles that cause heavy traffic in the city.
This was after Mayor Wenceslao "Peewee" Trinidad received a string of criticisms for allowing unregistered public utility vehicles and illegal terminals in the city.
Florencio Mateo, chief of the Pasay City Traffic and Management Office (TMO), said his office has impounded 28 jeepneys and three buses during the early hours of the campaign.
Mateo said unregistered jeepneys found in Pasay were plying the routes of Malibay, Baclaran, Divisoria, Mall of Asia, Alabang, and Sucat Road. The impounded buses, meanwhile, were bound for Cavite, Batangas, and Bicol.
He said TMO men will also clear the illegal terminals and other traffic obstructions along Taft Avenue and the South Luzon Expressway Extension.
He said TMO's first targes is an illegal terminal near Metropoint Department Store at the corner of Taft Avenue and EDSA, operated by a certain Boy Campo, who reportedly has connections to officials of the Pasay City local government.
