MANILA, Philippines - Two Army enlisted men were wounded following a predawn clash with suspected Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) rebels in North Cotabato province, a regional military spokesman said Thursday.
About 5:45 a.m., combined elements of the Army's 40th and 69th Infantry Battalions engaged an undetermined number of MILF rebels in Damatulan village in Midsayap town, said Maj. Armand Rico of the Armed Forces Eastern Mindanao Command.
Rico identified the wounded soldiers only as Corporal Ragonton and Sergeant Apduhan.
There were no reported casualties on the MILF side, reportedly headed by Zaid Pakidato alias Commander Jad and one Commander Mesay.
The MILF group is said to belong to the 105th MILF Base Command under Ameril Umbra Kato, who was earlier reported to have been wounded in a clash in Shariff Kabunsuan.
Kato is also facing a number of criminal complaints arising from the illegal occupation of 15 villages in North Cotabato.
As of posting time, Rico said firefight was still on going in the area. - GMANews.TV
