MANILA, Philippines - At least one security guard was injured as suspected communist New People's Army (NPA) rebels attacked at least four cell sites in Albay and Sorsogon provinces in the Bicol region.
Bombo Radyo on Saturday reported that Col. Ariel Bernardo, head of the Army's 901st Infantry Battalion, said the attacks happened Friday night.
The report said the rebels bombed a Globe cell site in Humapon in Legazpi City at 7:10 p.m., then bombed another at Bacong village in Ligao five minutes later.
At 8 p.m., another explosion rocked a cell site in Barcelona in Sorsogon province. A fourth explosion hit a cell site in Jovellar town in Albay.
Initial investigation by authorities showed that the suspected rebels overpowered the guards in Humapon in Legazpi City, damaging the cabin room.
The suspected NPAs in the Ligao attack engaged guards in a shootout, wounding one of the guards.
NPAs burned another Globe cell site in Del Gallego town in Camarines Sur province Thursday night. - GMANews.TV
