Pagasa: Low pressure area may bring floods, landslides to Luzon

MANILA, Philippines - A low-pressure area (LPA) near Quirino province may bring flash floods and landslides to Northeast Luzon, state weather forecasters said on Sunday.

The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said that as of 2 a.m., the LPA was at the vicinity of Quirino province.

"Luzon and Visayas will experience cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms becoming widespread rains over Northeastern Luzon which may trigger flashfloods and landslides," it said in its 5 a.m. bulletin.

A monsoon trough across Luzon also threatens to bring rains to the area, according to Pagasa.

Mindanao will have partly cloudy to at times cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms, it added.

The weather bureau said moderate to occasionally strong winds blowing from the Southwest would prevail over Central and Southern Luzon with moderate to occasionally rough seas.

Light to moderate winds blowing from the Southwest to Southeast will prevail over the rest of Luzon, coming from the South and Southwest over the rest of the country.

Coastal waters along these areas will be slight to moderate except during thunderstorms. - GMANews.TV
