The mayor of Kalibo town in Aklan province, one of the hardest-hit areas by typhoon Frank (international codename Fengshen), on Thursday appealed for more aid as supplies of food and water in the province dwindled.
Mayor Rey Rebaldo said the residents are in dire need of food, medicine, clothing, and clean drinking water.
“Walang ilaw tsaka importante walang tubig. Paubos na ang mga bottled water. Ang iniinom nila deep well,” he said.
The mayor said he hopes power and water supplies will go back to normal within the week as what was assured to him by the water district and local electricity cooperative.
The heavy equipment sent to Kalibo to clear its road of ankle-deep mud was also on its way to the capital, which has been placed under a state of calamity.
Seven people died in Kalibo while 93 others were injured during the typhoon's onslaught. More than 2,000 houses were damaged by the typhoon.
