LAOAG CITY - Farmer Dionisio Tumamao of San Nicolas, Ilocos Norte went missing after he was carried by strong current of the Padsan River as typhoon Karen hit the province Wednesday.
A rescue team from the police searched the river but failed in finding Tumamao. It was learned that the farmer crossed the river despite heavy rain to retrieve his cow that was on the bank.
Meanwhile, the Provincial Disaster Coordinating Council said floods were reported in Laoag and the towns of Dingras, Sarrat and Badoc. Three houses were also damaged by the typhoon in Sarrat. No one was hurt.
The Padsan River, on the other hand, continues to threaten villages in Sarrat and Dingras. Authorities said that some barangays are now isolated because of flooding and heavy rain.
Roads leading to the town of Adams and the village of Surong Valley in the municipality of Dingras are no longer passable because of landslides.
The provincial government has also reported that 30 percent of ricefields in the province are now underwater.
