MANILA, Philippines - Two weather disturbances, one of them possibly intensifying into a cyclone, threaten to bring more rains on Luzon, state weather forecasters said Sunday afternoon.
On the other hand, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said the rains in Metro Manila this weekend stemmed not from a cyclone but from the monsoon.
In its 5 p.m. bulletin, Pagasa said a shallow low-pressure area (SLPA) was spotted in the vicinity of Quirino Province as of 2 p.m.
A second disturbance, an Active Low Pressure Area (ALPA), was spotted at 180 kms northeast of Aparri, Cagayan.
"Luzon will experience monsoon rains while visayas will have cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms becoming widespread rains over the Central and Northern Luzon which may trigger flashfloods and landslides," it said.
Mindanao will be partly cloudy to at times cloudy with isolated rainshowers and thunderstorms.
Moderate to strong winds blowing from the southwest will prevail over Luzon and Visayas with moderate to rough seas.
Elsewhere, light to moderate winds coming from the south and southwest and the coastal waters along these areas will be slight to moderate except during thunderstorms. - GMANews.TV
