More or less five tons of sugar, allegedly stolen from a warehouse of Victorias Milling Company, were recovered by police in Cadiz City early Friday.
The Philippine National Police in Cadiz City intercepted a truck loaded with stolen sacks of sugar in Barangay Tinampaan at 3 a.m.
Arrested were Ronnie Villaruel and Geoffrey Mansalay, both workers of hauler identified as Manuel Chua.
Chief Inspector Jefferson Descallar, Cadiz City police chief, said the suspects sold the 20 sacks of stolen sugar to a bakery owner in Cadiz City.
The bakery owner purportedly informed the police upon learning that the sacks of sugar sold to him were stolen.
Descallar said it is possible that the suspects have connections with some employees inside the warehouse, but added that the illegal operation was discovered only now.
Authorities estimated that the stolen sugar from the mill costs P60,000.
Descallar said the arrested suspects will face charges of theft. With a report from Nico Delfin, ABS-CBN Bacolod
