Paghidaet sa Paghiliusa Negros, a non-government organization (NGO) based in Negros Occidental, launched a signature campaign against the appointment of Romulo Neri as president and chief executive officer of the Social Security System.
Lina Hilado, member of the board of directors of the NGO says as of yesterday, they have gathered 206 signatures.
Hilado said that their group launched the signature drive against Neri’s appointment because the future of the multi-billion fund of private employees is at stake.
The group will be attaching the signatures gathered to the position paper they will be sending to President Arroyo through Presidential Assistant for Western Visayas Raul Banias.
The signatures were gathered from various schools and sectoral groups in the province.
The signatories in their position paper said that every Filipino remembers how the national
treasury was almost put at jeopardy by the aborted multi-billion national broadband network (NBN) deal with China’s ZTE Corp. deal and how the former National Economic and Development Authority head had acted against the interest of the Nation by choosing to be silent over the truth in the anomalous deal.
The position paper further states that they fear the prospect of yet another fund-related nightmare for the interest of the lady, Mrs. Arroyo, who appointed Neri to the position.
The group cited Neri as a man whose credibility has reached its lowest in the perception of the Filipino people.
Neri’s appointment as SSS President and Chief Executive Officer takes effect August 1.
