MANILA, Philippines - A former policeman with a shotgun and at least 60 others were rounded up in a predawn saturation drive staged by Manila police at the North Cemetery Tuesday.
Manila Police District Station 3 head Superintendent Romulo Sapitula said they are now verifying the identity of the shotgun owner, who also yielded marijuana.
"Palagi itong nirereklamo na tine-terrorize ang tao rito, may shotgun siya (This ex-cop is the subject of complaints that he terrorizes the people here with his shotgun)," Sapitula said in an interview on dzBB radio.
He said the shotgun owner, who he initially identified as Suarez, also yielded 28 rounds of ammunition and an undetermined amount of marijuana.
Sapitula also said they are now verifying the "police records" of Suarez.
On the other hand, he said the saturation drive came after they received information many muggers in the downtown area had made the cemetery their home.
He said many of them would slip past security guards by pretending to visit the graves of "relatives," then make some mausoleums their homes. - GMANews.TV
