MANILA, Philippines - A town in Negros Oriental province is considering arming its village chiefs to fight criminality, an online news site reported.
An article in The Visayan Daily Star said that Valencia town mayor Rodolfo Gonzales is considering arming his village chiefs as part of his all-out war against criminality.
Gonzales also said he had endorsed the arming of persons directly involved in the towns anti-criminality campaign.
He said he will seek the support of the town council to pass a resolution on the matter.
Some months back, Sibulan town filed a similar resolution, which the municipal council rejected.
Gonzales also said it is high time the government adopts the federal system where every state creates its own innovations and laws including those on taxation. - GMANews.TV
