Ambushed GenSan radio commentator dies

Radio commentator Dennis Cuesta, who was shot by gunmen aboard a motorcycle in General Santos last Monday, died Saturday afternoon.

Cuesta died at around 3:45 p.m. Saturday. He suffered three gunshot wounds, one each in the head, shoulder, and foot.

Cuesta, who worked for Radio Mindanao Network's (RMN) General Santos station, was confined at the Saint Elizabeth Hospital in the said city.

The RMN broadcaster was shot by three motorcycle-riding gunmen while walking near the Gaisano Mall on Monday afternoon.

RMN said Cuesta and a co-anchor had just finished airing a raffle draw for the network's promo program and was walking home when ambushed.

On Tuesday, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said it has already produced composite sketches of two of the suspected gunmen in the shooting.

The PNP said copies of the composite sketches of the two suspected assailants of Cuesta would be handed to its units in General Santos City and other areas in Mindanao.

Director General Avelino Razon Jr., PNP chief, said he had ordered the police regional office in Soccsksargen to focus on Cuesta's case.

Razon said the ambush on Cuesta may be work related, but added that police investigators are looking at all angles of the attack.

On Thursday, Martin Roxas, RMN Roxas City program manager, was shot dead just minutes after leaving the station at around noon.

"He was aboard a motorcycle, and was just 900 meters (3,000 feet) away from the station when a gunman shot him in the back of the neck," RMN radio station manager Ely Abarra told AFP.

"He was rushed to a nearby hospital, but was declared dead on arrival," Abarra said. With reports from Ann Santos, ABS-CBN General Santos and Agence France-Presse
