Boracay to experience 2-month brownout

The resort island of Boracay will experience daily power outages that would last for two months starting Monday, the Department of Energy said.

Energy Secretary Angelo Reyes said the island-wide brownout will start from 8 a.m. up to 5 p.m. daily due to the upgrading of the transformer of the National Transmission Company. Reyes said the project aims to increase the capacity of the island's power grid.

The energy chief said that officials are finding ways to lessen the number of hours without electricity since this would mean resorts will have to use power generators.

Reyes added that the project and the proposed duration of the brownout underwent consultations with various stakeholders, including businessmen and resort owners.
