CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga Members of a committee tasked to collect quarry fees here called for the resignation of the provincial administrator on Thursday.
Resign from your post if you still care for Pampanga," the committee members told lawyer Vivian Dabu, Pampanga's provincial administrator, during a sit-down strike outside the capitol.
The members of the Biyayang Alulugod at Sisikapan (Balas), a committee formed by Governor Ed Panlilio to oversee the collection of quarry fees, said they are willing to go on hunger strike until their demand is not met.
The Balas members were protesting the reported demotion and termination of some of their colleagues.
Eduard de Leon, the group's spokesperson, said 90 of the 187 heads, supervisors and checkers of Balas joined the protest action.
The problem stemmed from anomalies allegedly committed by some Balas supervisors and checkers that led to their demotion.
Dabu on Thursday morning said the strike is illegal because the Balas officials are civil service employees. She said said those who joined the protest action will be dismissed from the service.
Dabu was in a with other Balas committee members as of posting time. - Fred Villareal, GMANews.TV
