Digos tightens security after bus bombing

MANILA, Philippines - Authorities tightened security in Digos City in Davao del Sur Friday, a day after a homemade bomb exploded inside a passenger bus and wounded over 30 passengers.

Digos mayor Arsenio Latasa said city police are now on heightened alert, while all entry and exit points were sealed with checkpoints.

"Na-seal natin ang entrance and exit ng city. Sa terminal nagdagdag tayo ng tao at pulis to conduct inspection (We have sealed the entrance and exit points in the city. In the bus terminals, we have added security personnel and police to conduct inspections)," Latasa said in an interview on DZRH.

He said he has asked Southern Mindanao regional police commander Chief Supt. Andres Caro II for added police personnel to secure the city.

According to him, aside from the PNP, the Philippine Army had sent personnel to the city to augment the police force there.

"I was requesting for additional police personnel in the city, medyo kulang ang pulis natin dito (I requested Caro for additional police in the city. We lack police personnel here)," he said.

Thursday's bombing was the second since two years ago.

Meanwhile, Latasa said some of those injured had been discharged from the hospitals, while those who suffered serious injuries were transferred to hospitals in Davao City. - GMANews.TV
