Typhoon Igme (international codename Fung-Wong) has made landfall over the eastern coast of mainland China as it left four people dead, thousands of families displaced and P1.9-million agriculture damaged in the Philippines, officials said.
On its latest 6 a.m. update, the National Disaster Coordinating Council (NDCC) said Tuesday four people were killed in the provinces of Ilocos Norte and Abra during the onslaught of the typhoon.
Two people were also injured while five others remain unaccounted for, the NDCC report added.
Close to 4,000 families, or 15,956 people, have been affected in Region 1 and Cordillera Administrative Region due to flooding. Ninety-seven families, or 444 people, have remained in six evacuation centers while other typhoon victims opted to stay with their relatives.
In agriculture, NDCC report placed the damage to crops, fisheries and livestock at P1.8 million, P6,000, and P108,900, respectively.
Some roads in Region 1 remain impassable due to landslides but clearing operations continue, NDCC said.
Meanwhile, weather bureau, Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services (PAGASA), said public storm warning signals have been lowered but Igme would continue to enhance the southwest monsoon and is expected to bring rains over the western sections of Central and Northern Luzon.
