At least 300 members of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) allegedly took over the municipality of Tipo-Tipo, Basilan, according to reports reaching ABS-CBN News.
Two civilians were reportedly killed and three policemen were reported missing as a result of the MILF's action.
Tipo-Tipo Mayor Tong Istarul said alleged MILF guerillas reportedly even burned down several houses, forcing residents to flee.
Policemen posted in the area were not able to react immediately since they were busy escorting the Board of Elections Inspectors who were transporting ballot boxes for the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) polls.
As of posting time, Istarul had already left for Lamitan, Basilan to seek help from authorities.
