MANILA, Philippines - More officers are expected to be reshuffled from their positions following Tuesday's announcement of new appointment to top posts in the Armed Forces, outgoing military chief Gen. Hermogenes Esperon Jr said Wednesday.
Esperon noted that aside from the movement triggered by his retirement on May 12, several key military positions will also be open, including the National Capital Region Command top post with the scheduled retirement of its commander Maj. Gen. Fernando Mesa on June 2.
Also, key positions in the Light Armor Division (LAD) and the 8th Infantry Division will be left vacant.
LAD commander Maj. Gen. Isagani Cachuela was earlier appointed as the new commander of the Northern Luzon Command, replacing Lt. Gen. Rodrigo Maclang who was promoted as the new AFP Deputy Chief of Staff.
While 8th ID chief Maj. Gen. Armando Cunanan was designated as the new Eastern Mindanao Command chief replacing Lt. Gen. Cardoso Luna who had been elevated as the new Vice Chief of Staff.
President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo had earlier named Army chief Lt. Gen. Alexander Yano as Esperon's successor.
