Former Marine commandant Maj. Gen. Renato Miranda left detention Tuesday to visit his wife at a Laguna hospital where she underwent surgery.
A radio dzMM report said Miranda left the AFP Custodial Center in Camp Capinpin in Tanay, Rizal under heavy guard and proceeded to the hospital in Laguna. It said Navy flag-officer-in-command Vice Admiral Rogelio T. Calungsad sent security escorts to guard the former Marine chief.
Navy spokesman Lt. Col. Edgar Arevalo earlier said Armed Forces chief Lt. Gen. Alexander Yano allowed Miranda's hospital visit for humanitarian reasons.
Miranda and 17 other officers and facing rebellion charges for alleged participation in a withdrawal of support from President Arroyo in February 2006.
