2 Sri Lankan nationals to be deported for carrying fake passports

MANILA, Philippines - The Bureau of Immigration has ordered the deportation of two Sri Lankan nationals after they were arrested in possession of falsified Malaysian passports.

Immigration Commissioner Marcelino Libanan said the two Balagobal Kannataasan and Harisan Amirtham will also be barred from returning to the country.

Libanan said the foreigners were arrested while they were about to board a Qantas flight for Sydney, Australia and were detained at the Bicutan immigration jail pending deportation proceedings.

BI investigators suspect that the duo used their original Sri Lankan passports when they arrived in the country but obtained spurious Malaysian passports from a human trafficking syndicate that facilitated their trip.

The investigators also found out through its computerized travel database that the Sri Lankans did not arrive in the country last April 13 like what their passports showed.

The names of the two also did not appear in the manifest of the Malaysian Airlines flight that purportedly brought them to the Philippines. - GMANews.TV
