CEBU CITY, Philippines - President Gloria Arroyo on Thursday thanked members of the team from the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) for helping families of victims of the MV Princess of the Stars tragedy.
The Interpol team in Cebu City has been helping in taking DNA samples from the remains of the victims of the capsized ship off Romblon last June 21 at the height of the rage of typhoon Frank.
GMA regional network news Balitang Bisdak reported the President did not promise any financial assistance to the team.
According to the report, the team needs P1.7-million fund for DNA processing sites, which would need steel tables, beds and air-conditioning units.
Cebu Police chief superintendent Ronald Roderos said, however, he already made an appeal for assistance to the National Disaster Coordinating Council. - GMANews.TV
