DUMAGUETE CITY, Philippines - Negros Oriental Governor Emilio Macias II recently released P3 million for the production of organic fertilizer.
Joined by some sectors and the community in the implementation of his program dubbed as "NegOrganic," Macias ordered the start of a massive production of organic fertilizers throughout Negros Oriental.
Capitol information officer Adrian Sedillo said the governor has set up the program amid rising prices of fertilizer that might discourage farmers to farm.
Macias earlier said: "Farmers are now suffering from the high costs of farm inputs that they might be forced to stop tilling their lands and shift to planting other crops that do not need fertilizer."
With this, Sedillo added, Capitol agricultural officers would start procuring the African night crawler, which is valued at P500 per kilo. It is one of the most important components in producing organic fertilizers.
Sedillo also said the organic fertilizers would be given to farmer-beneficiaries as a grant. - Sun.Star Dumaguete
