ATHENS, Greece - The father of an Australian tourist who remains in a coma after an assault in Greece said Thursday he may agree to have his son taken off life-support machines.
Doujon Zammit, 20, was hospitalized in Athens after suffering serious head injuries in the assault Tuesday on the island of Mykonos, police and hospital officials said.
"The doctors have said he's brain dead, on life support," the victim's father Oliver Zammit said, in tears outside the Athens hospital. "Maybe tomorrow we'll turn off the life support and take him home."
He added: "I thank the Greek people for being so supportive."
The attack occurred near the island's popular Super Paradise beach. Police said four local nightclub employees had been arrested and were in custody.
The 25-year-old main suspect was charged with aggravated assault and impersonating a police officer. Three others were charged with complicity, judicial officials said on the nearby island of Syros.
They are due to appear in court Friday on Syros. - AP
