Robbers take P1M from BPI branch in Quezon City

Robbers ransacked a Bank of Philippine Islands (BPI) branch in Quezon City Sunday evening and took away P1 million cash.

The staff of the BPI branch in Capitol Hills discovered it had been robbed at 7 a.m. Monday.

Police superintendent Tante Agpao said the robbers went to the vacant lot on the side of the bank and climbed its roof. The robbers passed through an opening in the roof of the bank.

When they got inside the bank, Agpao said the robbers used acetylene to open the vault.

Investigators recovered a bolt-cutter, a knife, and two crowbars from the crime scene.

Agpao theorized that the bank was ransacked late Sunday night because the mud left from the suspects trail was still damp.

Agpao said the robbery was well-planned since the alarm signal did not reached the police, adding the robbers destroyed all communication equipment, including a closed-circuit TV camera.

No security was on guard because BPI is cutting costs.

As of posting time, police said the bank’s janitor will be held for interrogation. Police are wondering why he informed the management that he will be absent on Monday, but he reported Monday morning following the robbery.
