Classes suspended for Malabon schools

Classes in all levels for public and private schools in Malabon City remained suspended Thursday due to flooding brought by monsoon rains and tropical storm "Helen" (international codename Kalmaegi) Wednesday, the local government said.

The suspension of classes in all levels followed Wednesday's order from Mayor Canuto Oreta after floodwaters submerged several villages in the city. Several other areas in Metro Manila suspended classes for the afternoon shift.

As of 4 .m. Thursday, weather bureau satellites spotted Helen's center at 200 kilometers northeast of Basco, Batanes, with maximum sustained winds of 95kph near the center and windgusts of up to 120 kph. It was moving north at 15 kph.

The storm was forecast on a course for Okinawa, Japan by Friday morning.
