15-year-old mom throws newborn out of speeding taxi

MANILA, Philippines - A 15-year-old woman who allegedly threw her newborn daughter out of the speeding taxi after delivering her child on Tuesday afternoon has been arrested.

The mother of the newborn baby girl is now in the custody of Manila Police District - District Mobile Patrol Unit (MPD-DMPU).

The new-born infant was recovered alive and police are preparing to file frustrated infanticide charges against the mother.

A police report said that the 15-year-old mother was aboard a taxi being driven by Epifanio De Viray when she suddenly threw her daughter out of the car at the corner of P. Gil and Onyx Streets, Paco, Manila at around 4 p.m.

The woman's uncle told police that he and his niece were on their way to the hospital as she was about to deliver her child.

While inside the taxi, she suddenly gave birth. She then threw her child out of the window of the taxi.

A businesswoman driving behind the taxi almost hit the infant, which was wrapped with a piece of cloth.

She was able to recover the baby and brought it to a lying-in clinic.

“It’s good I managed to avoid the baby," said businesswoman Cristine Quinones.

The baby survived and she was transferred to Ospital ng Maynila (OSMA) for further observation.

The baby will be transferred to the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) after discharge from the hospital.

The suspect at first said she did not intend to throw her child and that she only felt fear when she delivered the baby.

She then gave another version to the police. She said she threw the baby upon orders of her grandmother who was also with her at the taxi.

On Tuesday, a newborn baby girl died after she was thrown out from the 9th floor of a building in Binondo, Manila.- GMANews.TV
