The Light Rail Transit Authority on Thursday morning canceled LRT-1 trips from Baclaran to Libertad in Pasay City due to a pre-dawn fire that struck a shopping center.
LRTA deputy administrator Cesar Chavez announced over radio dzMM that trips from Libertad to Baclaran and vise versa were suspended starting 7:20 a.m.
Chavez said the trip suspension was a result of the fire that struck the Puregold shopping center in Libertad, which is connected to the area's LRT station.
Reports said the fire started at the shopping center's second floor. Firefighters were having a hard time pacifying the fire because of thick smoke.
A firefighter tried to gain entry into the burning shopping center but collapsed due to suffocation. Firefighters have broken glass doors and windows of the shopping center to make a way out for the smoke.
Vehicles going to and from Libertad, meanwhile, have been diverted to other routes. With dzMM
