ARMM governor, vice-governor reelected

The incumbent governor of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM), Zaldy Ampatuan, has been reelected governor of the region, the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) announced Wednesday afternoon.

Ampatuan was reelected ARMM governor with 1,017,179 votes, while his running mate and incumbent Vice-Governor Ansaruddin Adiong was also reelected to his post.

ARMM regional board of canvassers chair Teopisto Elnas proclaimed Ampatuan and Adiong.

Nearly all of the election returns from the ARMM provinces have been transmitted to the COMELEC office in Manila, but the poll body did not divulge the names of the leading candidates up to the moment of proclamation to avoid trending.

COMELEC chair Jose Melo said a total of 1.4 million people, or 84 percent of the 1.5 million registered voters in the region, participated in the polls. -- With a report from ANC
