A Department of National Defense (DND) chopper carrying Defense Secretary Gilbert Teodoro was forced to land at a football field in Marikina City Monday due to bad weather.
Commodore Alexander Pama said that Teodoro and several other officials were coming in from a speaking engagement in Capas, Tarlac aboard a UH-1H helicopter when they met bad weather in the area over Quezon City around 1:30 p.m.
Heavy rains and strong winds, coupled with zero visibility, forced the chief pilot to make a precautionary landing immediately at the football field of the Manila Boys' Town and Fugoso High School in Parang village.
The helicopter had six passengers, including Teodoro and Pama.
Teodoro said that because the pilots were trained, he was confident about the maneuver. He, however, said that his fellow passengers were a bit nervous.
Teodoro thanked the pilots for their professionalism and for their safe landing despite zero visibility in the air. Jay Ruiz, ABS-CBN News
