Tropical storm Igme (international codename Fung-Wong) has grown stronger as it whirls toward Basco, Batanes Saturday, weather bureau PAGASA said.
As of 11 a.m., Igme was 540 kilometers east northeast of Basco, Batanes packing maximum sustained winds of 105 kilometers per hour and gusts of up to 135 kph.
PAGASA has hoisted Public Storm Signal No. 2 over Batanes Group of Islands and Signal No. 1 over Calayan and Babuyan islands.
The weather bureau said Igme will stay near Basco, Batanes until Monday morning and move closer to Taipei, Taiwan by Tuesday morning.
Weather forecasters said rains will fall in Metro Manila before nightfall because of Igme.
The storm continued to enhance the southwest monsoon and expected to bring more rains over the western sections of Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.
“Residents in low lying areas and near mountain slopes are advised to take all the necessary precautions against possible flashfloods and landslides,” the weather bureau said.
