Welder killed after falling from building in Sampaloc

MANILA, Philippines - ¬A drinking spree turned fatal for a welder who fell several stories to his death at a building in Manila's Sampaloc district before dawn Saturday.

Radio dzBB reported that the victim, initially identified as Jerry Dicto, died before doctors at the Mary Chiles Hospital could treat his injuries, including a cracked skull.

The victim, between 25 to 30 years old, was one of several laborers working on the renovation of a five-story building along Delos Santos Street in Sampaloc, Manila.

Sketchy initial reports indicated that at about 2 a.m., youths passing by the area heard a thud and saw the victim's body sprawled on the ground.

Homicide investigators gathered from witnesses that the victim and his colleagues had a drinking spree shortly before the incident.

They said they will have to question the other workers at the site to get more information, including what floor the victim was on when he fell. - GMANews.TV
