COTABATO CITY, Philippines An Army corporal was killed during a 30-minute firefight with suspected robbers here Sunday night, a belated report from the local police said.
Chief Supt. Willie Dangane identified the slain soldier as Cpl. Joel Alfanta of the Armys Task Force Tugis.
Reports said that Alfanta was among those who responded to a report about an ongoing robbery in a busy street here.
Members of the Task Force Tugis, including Alfanta, immediately proceeded to Sousa Street, where the suspects had taken cover.
When the suspects were already cornered, one of them fired and hit Alfanta on his head that caused his instant death, reports said.
The suspects fled on foot towards San Vicente Street leading to Bagua village, a known exit point of many hold-uppers. - GMANews.TV
