Police on Thursday killed three suspected highway hijackers in a shootout in Quezon City.
Superintendent Frank Mabanag of the Quezon City Police District said the suspects were killed by policemen after hijacking a container van (PUV 288) at the corner of Araneta Avenue and Calamba Street before 10 a.m.
Probers said members of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit were patrolling Araneta Avenue when they spotted a commotion near Calamba Street.
When the policemen responded, they saw the armed suspects onboard the van. The suspects fired at policemen and tried to escape.
Two of the suspects were killed while the third died a few meters away on Araneta Avenue.
Police have yet to identify the suspects.
