DILG chief extends power of LGUs to pass additional calamity fund

Department of Interior and Local Government Secretary Ronaldo Puno issued a directive on Saturday allowing local government officials to approve supplemental budgets during calamities.

An additional budget can be granted in case the calamity fund was already spent or the fund is inadequate, a dzMM report said.

In the order, governors and mayors are permitted to allot five percent of the local government’s income from regular resources for the rehabilitation and repair of properties damaged by typhoon.

Puno added that the additional calamity budget would aid the continuation of rehabilitation programs in typhoon wreck provinces.

He however reminded local officials to observe the requirements and guidelines provided by the directive in approving supplemental budgets to avoid criticisms from the public.
