Ex-MILF commander nabbed in Cavite

A former commander of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) was nabbed by Manila policemen in Bacoor, Cavite Wednesday morning.

Police identified the suspect as Abdul Basit Malacao alias Abdul Rahman Mohamed, former commander of the MILF's 105th command based in Maguindanao.

Police said Malacao has a pending warrant of arrest for frustrated murder charges issued by the Manila City Regional Trial Court in 2005. The suspect is also wanted for illegal possession of explosives, police said.

A radio dzMM report said intelligence agents of the Manila Police District received a report that Malacao escaped from Maguindanao and went into hiding somewhere in Isla Puting Bato in Tondo district.

Policemen raided the alleged hideout but failed to arrest Malacao. After a week of surveillance operation and intelligence gathering, Manila policemen traced Malacao in Barangay Molino in Bacoor, Cavite.

Malacao was arrested in his hideout in Cavite around 6 a.m. The suspect has been turned over to the warrant section of the Manila police force.
