MANILA, Philippines - Police in Bataan province are now in hot water over some 24,000 liters of missing oil worth P1 million in seven tanker trucks that were intercepted last June.
Radio dwIZ reported Friday that Unioil Philippines wrote to Philippine National Police chief Director General Avelino Razon Jr complaining about the missing fuel.
According to the report, Unioil president Kenneth Pundanera wrote Razon a letter dated July 10 saying that they discovered the irregularity during a joint inventory of the trucks.
The report added Unioil threatened to file charges against the Bataan police under Senior Superintendent Manuel Gaerlan if the police cannot account for the missing fuel.
Initial investigation showed Bataan police intercepted the seven trucks and impounded them last June 1, after the drivers failed to produce documents for the oil.
After impounding the trucks in its headquarters in Balanga City, the PNP was to turn over the trucks to the Bureau of Customs in Mariveles town.
But during a joint inspection attended by PNP, BOC and Unioil representatives, inspectors found the seals on the trucks broken.
A check showed that of the 136,000 liters the trucks were carrying, only 111,785 liters were accounted for. Unioil said it got no explanation where the 24,215 liters went.
The dwIZ report said that despite the discrepancy, the Bataan police turned over the trucks to the BOC last Tuesday. - GMANews.TV
