MANILA, Philippines - A three-year-old boy was killed while two others were injured in a flashflood that hit two villages in Cebu province over the weekend, the National Disaster Coordinating Council said Thursday.
The NDCC identified the fatality as Ken-Ken Castro Wagas of Lupa village in Compostela town, while those injured in the flashflood were Elenita Avila, 46, and Cheryl Gala, 27, both from the town's Mulao village.
NDCC cited a report from the Office of the Civil Defense-Region 7 which said that on June 20, heavy rains caused a flashflood in Lupa and Mulao villages.
In an advisory issued 5 a.m. Sunday, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) warned against rains over Visayas, Mindanao and Palawan brought by a shallow low-pressure area off Northern Mindanao.
It said the SLPA was embedded along the intertropical convergence zone, spotted 280 kilometers east of Northern Mindanao as of 2 a.m. Sunday, affecting Visayas and Mindanao.
The latest typhoon to hit the country was Helen (international codename: Kalmaegi), which left two people dead and P7 million worth of properties damaged. - Amita Legaspi, GMANews.TV
