Members of Pinag-isang Samahan ng Tsuper at Operator Nationwide (PISTON) in Bicol confirmed on Saturday that it is set hold a two-day transport strike.
The group said that they would launch the strike early Tuesday and that it would end on Wednesday afternoon.
The militant transport group said it expects that about 95-99 percent of public transportation in Bicol region would be paralyzed, including the Camarines provinces.
Bicol covers the provinces of Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Albay, Sorsogon, Catanduanes, and Masbate.
A dzMM radio report quoted PISTON as saying the region-wide transport holiday would let commuters and government feel the harsh effects of the surging prices of petroleum products.
PISTON has been calling on the government to junk the Oil Deregulation Law, where the government does not interfere in the pricing of oil products, and the repeal of the imposition of the 12-percent Expanded Value Added Tax on petroleum products.
PISTON also encouraged shipping lines to join the transport strike.
