Villar distributes relief goods to typhoon-hit Romblon residents

Senate President Manuel Villar visited Romblon Island to distribute relief goods to the towns which were gravely affected by typhoon ‘Frank’, said a dzMM report on Saturday.

Villar’s relief operation targeted 4,000 families living in the towns of Sta. Maria, San Agustin, Tablas Island, Sibuyan Island, and San Fernando.

Schools and business establishments have not yet recovered from the damage wrought by the typhoon. Fishermen living near the coast of Sibuyan Island lost their livelihood when a fish ban was imposed within a 5-kilometer radius of the capsized MV Princess of the Stars. The passenger ferry capsized in the waters of Sibuyan island during the height of the typhoon on June 21.

Romblon Gov. Natalio Beltran III said that it will take time before the province can finally recover from the effects of the typhoon.

Residents whose homes were destroyed have been given jobs to reconstruct roads and government buildings in the province, while fishermen near the waters of Sibuyan were given 10 chickens, which the local government hoped the fishermen can use to earn a living.
