Negros Oriental - Even with the continuous heavy rainfall in Bayawan City Friday, representatives from Sagip Kapamilya and ABS-CBN Central Visayas were able to distribute relief goods to two hundred families in the said city.
Bayawan City in southern Negros Oriental recently experienced a flashflood caused by heavy rains of typhoon "Butchoy" last week and "Cosme", in which two hundred families were affected.
Four barangays Poblacion, Ubos, Bangga, and Nangka, which were directly hit, still have not yet recovered fully since Tuesday last week.
More than two hundred houses were flooded with water. Agricultural lands mostly planted with rice, sugarcane, and corn, were wiped out when Bayawan River overflowed.
Sagip Kapamilya gave out more than 600 kilos of rice and vegetables to the families. Each family received three kilos of rice and vegetables.
"Maayo na ni kay makakaon na mi ug katulo sa usa ka adlaw... mahal kaayong bugas karon. Lisod kayo among kaon sa mga niaging adlaw," (This is good enough for us to be able to eat three times a day… rice is so expensive nowadays. It was hard for us to eat for the past days.)," said Risbie Bagumba of Hacienda San Ramon, Poblacion and one of the recipients of Sagip Kapamilya’s aid.
The city government will still have to determine this Monday the exact damage caused by the recent flashflood.
Meanwhile in Barangay Caidiocan in the town of Valencia, Negros Oriental, which was hit by a landslide Tuesday of last week, affected residents also received relief goods from Sagip Kapamilya.
83 indigent families were given three kilos of rice and vegetables while 17 families which were directly affected by the landslide each received six kilos of rice. The families were also given used clothing.
"Dako kay nig katabang sa amoa, labi na nga pait kayo among gidangatan adtong landslide. Salamat Kaayo sa ABS-CBN makadugang-dugang ni sa among pagkaon," (This is a big help for us, especially that we have suffered such a bitter fate. Thank you so much to ABS-CBN, this contributes to our daily food needs.) said Melodia Bunoy, victim of landslide.
17 families, whose homes were destroyed by the tragic incident, are currently staying in two daycare centers in the neighboring barangays.
The local government of Valencia declared last week that the damage of the landslide is more than P7,000,000.
