Local environmentalist promotes biogas as alternative to LPG

Bayambang, Pangasinan -- A local environmentalist said fuel retailers may become pressured once consumers realize the importance of biogas as an alternative to liquefied petroleum gas or LPG.

As prices of petroleum products increase every week, consumers are finding ways to spend less, particularly in their purchase of LPG as its prices have gone up from P16.50 to P20 per kilogram.

This situation has urged Ed Guevarra, an anti-global warming advocate, to introduce his innovative "biogas digester".

Biogas can be produced through waste materials like human and animal manure and other biodegradable materials with the use of the "digester" that is usually installed underground.

The materials that would be fed to this "digester" would first be grinded to be able to release methane gas which can create flame for cooking.

For only P2,000, every household can afford to have the simplest model of "biogas digester".

With almost all of the prices of basic commodities increasing recently, Guevarra said, an environmentalist and a consumer like him has no choice but to resort to a more useful and environmental way to spend on energy while still enjoying the usual cooking habit.
