Rolling stores of National Food Authority loaded with 50 bags of NFA rice have started selling in some barangays in Bacolod City.
Mayor Evelio Leonardia sought the help of NFA to put up rolling stores because some barangays in the city have no NFA outlets.
Some residents have to spend for fare to go to markets to buy NFA rice. They also need to spend hours in long queues and they could only buy as much as three to five kilos.
But in the rolling stores in the barangays, the Confederation of Grains Retailers Association (GRECON) through NFA's approval is offering as much as 10 kilos for every buyer.
In Barangay Bata however, 50 bags were not enough. GRECON representatives and barangay officials announced after hours of selling that they cannot anymore sell as much as 10 kilos but only half of it for every buyer.
Barangay workers offered residents their apologies and sought the people’s understanding.
"We should do this to accommodate all who would want to buy NFA rice," said Cristina Sarol, Barangay Community Affair Aide.
"The allocation can be increased if the mayor asks from NFA manager," said GRECON president Nonilo Nacion.
GRECON was tapped by NFA in selling the rice. GRECON sold NFA Vietnam rice in the rolling stores at P18.25 per kilogram.
NFA rolling stores were scheduled to sell in Bacolod’s barangays Tuesdays and Thursdays
